The 17th Annual BARS Conference

21st - 22nd September 2017

BARS Council are pleased to announce that the 2017 BARS Conference will be held in Leeds at the Marriott Hotel City Centre, approx 7-8 minutes walk from Leeds Central Station and around a 15-20 minute drive from the M621.  Access is also available via Leeds Bradford International Airport.


Registration opens at 10:00 hrs on 21 September with tea/coffee followed by lunch at 12:00 hrs. The Conference commences with the Chairman's welcome at 13:00 hrs and day one will finish at 17:20 hrs

BARS Council is pleased to announce that we will be holding a series of Slit Lamp Workshops on the morning of Thursday 21st September for those attending the 2017 BARS Conference who may not wish to attend the Programme Management Meeting. Haag-Streit have kindly agreed to provide three slit lamps for use in these workshops, and the sessions will be led by BARS President, Professor Tunde Peto, alongside other members of council who between them have a wealth of experience in the field of SLB examination. The workshops will be interactive and educational, providing an opportunity for some hands-on training.

We will be holding three sessions and entry is free, but places are strictly limited and must be booked in advance. You may only register for one session and the workshops are restricted to those attending the 2017 BARS Conference. SLB Workshops are now FULLY BOOKED.

The Programme Management Meeting will take place from 10.30 to 12pm on Thursday 21 September.  This is only for delegates attending the main meeting.  Registration for this meeting is now CLOSED.  

A drinks reception is planned from 19:30 hrs with the Gala Dinner at 20:00 hrs.  Disco for entertainment thereafter.

Day two will commence at 09:00 hrs and Conference will end at 13:25 hrs.

A Failsafe Forum will commence at 14:00 hrs.  This will last until 16:30 hours.  A fee of £15.00 will be charged for those attending this meeting (includes a working sandwich lunch). There are 60 places available.  Registration for this forum is now CLOSED

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists Education Dept/Professional Standards have awarded the meeting 7 CPD points - Category B. This will be beneficial for Medical staff attending.

BARS Council have worked hard to keep the conference registration costs down this year, and are pleased to announce a price of just £100 for delegates staying in the hotel on the 24hr rate, and for non-residents, £60 for day delegate rate for the Thursday and £50 for day delegate rate for the Friday.  For those not on the 24hr rate who wish to attend the Drinks Reception and Gala Dinner. this is priced at £45.00.

Accommodation must be booked and paid for separately. The conference will take place at the Marriott Hotel City Centre, 4 Trevelyan Square, Boar Lane, Leeds, LS1 6ET and BARS has reserved 140 rooms at a special discounted rate of £168 for the 24-hour single occupancy package and £235 for twin occupancy. These prices include lunch and the evening gala dinner on the Thursday, plus breakfast on the Friday.
