Macular Diseases Seminar

The Macular Seminar, which replaces the Elizabeth Thomas Seminar, is aimed at providing an update on macular diseases to clinicians at all levels, allied health practitioners, as well as scientists. The implications of the rapidly ageing population on the prevalence of retinal diseases, especially age-related macular degeneration (AMD) will be highlighted, in addition to an evaluation of our present understanding of the disease, treatments, and ‘missing links'. Advances in other macular diseases, including inherited diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and visual rehabilitation will also be discussed.

The 2018 Squint Forum

Location: Royal Society of Medicine, London

Date: 14 December

The squint forum conference is an annual update for orthoptists and ophthalmologists interested in strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology and will focus on the consequences of premature birth and esotropia.

There will also be a talk by the RSM squint forum prize winner.

aims and objectives

The meeting aims to inform delegates of the consequences of premature birth on the development of neurological and visual systems. Current controversies in the management of certain types of strabismus.

At the end of this meeting deleates will:

  • Understand the consequence of premature birth; In the neonatal period, on  developmental milestones and the development of vison and binocular functions
  • Learn the outcomes of treatment for retinopathy of prematurity
  • Know about the current  controversies in the management of infantile esotropia and other squints that can be treated with botulinum toxin, whether the treatment of convergent squints with bifocal glasses works and the latest research in the efficacy of orthoptic exercises
