BARS - Training Courses

A number of training courses for people already working in the field of diabetic retinopathy screening and those with no previous screening experience are available in the UK.

Although BARS are unable to formally endorse any specific courses we are happy to list them for the benefit of our members.

Heart of England

Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Centre of Excellence- Screening Course

This four day course, held at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital is designed to produce competent screeners and graders and also caters for clinicians who may wish to work in tertiary grading. A range of talented and experienced presenters lecture in their specific areas of expertise, within a fun and motivating atmosphere.

Newcastle

Practical Diabetic Retinal Screening Course

Comprises of 5 sections: Clinical context of diabetes,biology of DR,image acquisition,image interpretation & explanation to the patient and ophthalmology.These sections may be used in any combination. The courses have been arranged on an individual basis with no more than 2 people at a time and typically last 2-4 weeks, depending on levels of experience.

Costs £300 per person/week
